AGEphone PTT
IP push-to-talk radio Available for iOS and Android
For government, local authorities and public safety

An IP push-to-talk radio
that reaches the phone network and AI.

Smartphones, tablets and PCs become radios you simply press to talk on. Anywhere with an internet connection is in range for a group call. And beyond that: PSTN interconnection, IP-PBX integration and voice AI agent support as standard. Nothing is lost between the field, the phone network, the control room and AI.

Radio should not stop at radio. One line through phones, your organization and AI.

In most IP radio apps the conversation stays inside the app. AGEphone PTT is built on telephony foundations, so a voice on the radio carries straight through to the phone network, to the phone system you already run, and to AI.

01PSTN interconnection

Interconnection with the public telephone network, as standard

A radio in the field can call landlines, mobiles and other outside numbers directly, and be called back. A cloud PBX provides the voice platform, connecting to existing gateways over standard SIP. Interconnection with the PSTN means partner agencies and members of the public can join the same radio channel from an ordinary phone. Few IP radio apps have PBX integration built in; in AGEphone PTT it is a standard feature.

Outside calls — talk to an outside number without leaving the radio
Bringing calls in — bridge an incoming call onto the field channel
Use the numbers you have — run it as one with your main number and extension plan

02IP-PBX integration

IP-PBX integration, as part of the phone system you already run

AGEphone PTT is not a standalone radio app; it runs as part of the IP-PBX. Channels are reachable by extension number and sit alongside hunt groups, transfer and the rest of the PBX feature set. Rather than creating an island for radio, you add channels to the phone platform the organization already has.

Held as an extension — channels fold into your existing numbering plan
Half-duplex floor control — one speaker at a time, so nothing is talked over
Always-on channels — press and you are on air; muted automatically while idle
Central administration — set up channels and members from a GUI

03Voice AI

Voice AI agents that turn speech into the points that matter

A voice AI agent on the same platform takes the first response on a call, transcribes it and summarizes it. The summary is pushed to the radios in the field as a banner, so everyone on the channel knows immediately what the call was about. Turning speech into text and into key points makes both instructions and hand-overs faster.

AI first response — answers the call, takes the details and routes it
Automatic transcription and summary — the substance of the call, organized automatically
Summary banners — a summary of a call to the group, pushed to devices
Kept as a record — stored as text you can search later

Shelter A: query about a delayed water tanker

Needs action To: Disaster response HQ

A member of the public asked when the water tanker will reach Shelter A. They were told 15 minutes. Whether extra staff are needed on site still has to be checked.

How it works

From pressing the button to sharing the result, one continuous flow.

Press the button and speak. From there the IP-PBX ties radio, phones and AI together and sends the result back to the field.

STEP 01
Press to talk Just press the button on a phone, tablet or PC
STEP 02
Everyone hears it It reaches every member of the channel at once
STEP 03

STEP 04
Branching to the phone network and AI To an outside call (PSTN), or to AI transcription and summary
STEP 05
The summary comes back A banner with the key points returns to the people in the field

Wherever there is an internet connection, range is not a constraint. Mobile networks, Wi-Fi, satellite internet — any two places with IP connectivity are joined together, however far apart.

Comparison

How it differs from a typical IP radio app

Wide-area group calling is something most IP radio apps do well. What sets AGEphone PTT apart is what comes after it: connecting to the phone network, to the phone system you already run and to AI, as standard.

Item Typical IP radio app RecommendedAGEphone PTT
Wide-area group calling (no range limit) Supported Supported
Group and channel calling Supported Supported
PSTN interconnection Not supported / limited Included as standard
Integration with an existing IP-PBX (as an extension) Tends to be run separately Held as an extension
Voice AI agents (transcription and summary) Optional, or similar On the same platform
Supported devices Mostly smartphones Phones / tablets (iPad and Android) / PCs (browser)
Running with internal and outside lines as one Often disconnected One and the same phone platform

This table compares AGEphone PTT with how IP radio apps are generally configured, based on our own research. It does not assert or guarantee the capabilities of any particular product or service, and support varies between products. "Limited" and "optional, or similar" indicate that a capability may not be included as standard, or may require separate configuration or an additional contract. Connecting to outside lines (PSTN) requires a separate line contract such as a SIP trunk.

Staff coordinating at a public safety site
Where it is used

Where it earns its place: public service in the field.

From disaster preparedness and fire services to everyday local authority work, healthcare and care homes. Radio that reaches the phone network and AI helps people in the field decide faster.

Disaster response and preparedness Reach everyone at once across a wide area, in real time — and connect directly to partner agencies and to the public by phone.
Fire and ambulance coordination Immediate talk between crew members, with the control room phone line layered on top.
Local authority field work Patrols and inspections of roads, rivers and public facilities, joined to the phone network at the office.
Water, sewerage and public utilities Wide-area contact beyond radio dead zones, for directing emergency water supply and restoration work.
Healthcare and care homes Hands-free coordination between staff on site, with AI summaries keeping hand-overs short.
Events and crowd safety Instructions to stewards and security all at once, linking the phone desk at HQ straight to the ground.
Within and between offices Contact within and between departments, on the same numbering plan as the existing extensions.
Front desk and reception AI takes the first response on a call and sends the summary to the field, so less falls through.
Devices and technology

The devices you already carry become the radios.

There is no dedicated radio hardware to buy. The smartphones and tablets (iPad and Android) people already use, and a PC browser, become push-to-talk radios as they are. Half-duplex floor control organizes transmissions automatically, so voices do not overlap and it is always clear who is speaking.

On iPhone in particular, the app supports the PushToTalk framework introduced in iOS 16 (the OS-native push-to-talk integration). Even while the device is asleep or the screen is locked, it connects in the background the moment someone starts transmitting on the channel, and the audio plays straight away. There is no need to reopen the app or unlock the screen — the phone can stay in a pocket or holster without missing anything. Android devices, iPads and PC browsers (WebRTC) join the same channel, so a mixed fleet works fine.

The right to transmit is held on the server. Only one person talks at a time, which prevents people speaking over each other and makes clear who is on air. Audio is encrypted with SRTP.

Why customers choose AGEphone PTT

Voice specialists bringing radio, phones and AI together.

Built on voice communication engineering

Designed by ageet, the company behind AGEphone, on top of its SIP and IP-PBX experience. Radio and telephony are continuous with each other.

Secure to run

The right to transmit is enforced on the server and audio is encrypted with SRTP, so "press and everyone hears it" stays under control.

Room to grow on one platform

It works with the PBX, AI answering, transcription and summaries on the same platform. Radio is where it starts, not where it ends.
